MANON | JULES MASSENET
In 1731, Abbé Prévost published his famous novel about Manon Lescaut: a young woman torn between love and her desire for luxury, which eventually leads to her and her lover’s downfall. The once scandalous story has inspired composers, choreographers and other artists to this day. Among others, Massenet, Puccini and Henze each wrote a Manon opera. In 1884, Massenet presented his version of the story in Paris, having created a masterpiece which is still found on international opera schedules today. In our current series, Juan Diego Flórez and Nino Machaidze star as the lovers Des Grieux and Manon, re-interpreting the timeless tale full of passion and tragedy.
